FC Baguettes Claim First Victory of the Season in Stormy Battle Against League Leaders Phoenix Atica
The rain started before kickoff and never truly stopped, but for FC Baguettes, the storm ended with a bright ray of sunshine: the club’s first victory of the season.
Even more impressive, the Baguettes handed Phoenix Atica their very first defeat of the campaign. Until today, Phoenix sat at the top of the league standings and arrived as championship leaders, making this victory even sweeter for FC Baguettes.
In difficult weather conditions, the Baguettes faced a tense and physical Phoenix Atica side in a match that quickly became heated. From the opening minutes, both teams struggled to find rhythm on the soaked pitch. Challenges flew in, tempers rose, and the atmosphere became increasingly aggressive as the game progressed.
Despite the chaotic conditions, FC Baguettes struck first. After a perfectly delivered corner from Bruno, Cyrille rose highest in the box and powered a header toward goal. The Phoenix goalkeeper completely misjudged his outing, allowing the ball to slip into the net. A scrappy but deserved opener gave the Baguettes a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
As the rain intensified in the second half, so did the tension. Phoenix Atica became more and more frustrated, contesting nearly every decision from the referee. Their growing anger resulted in several yellow cards and disrupted their focus entirely.
The Baguettes took full advantage. Cyrille, once again decisive, delivered an excellent pass through midfield to Illiès, who calmly doubled the lead and pushed Phoenix further into frustration. Soon after, the first red card arrived for the opposition, leaving Phoenix with only six players against seven.
With more space opening across the pitch, Mickael produced the moment of the match. Racing through alone on goal after a fantastic run, he finished with composure into the bottom corner with his left foot to make it 3-0.
Phoenix completely lost control emotionally, and a second sending-off followed after another angry reaction. Reduced to only five players, the match became far more comfortable for FC Baguettes. Kilian added a fourth goal after a clever assist from Stéphane, putting the result beyond doubt.
A late consolation goal from 15-year-old Oli slightly reduced the scoreline with a fine individual effort and a clever finish past Louis, but it could not change the outcome.
Final score: FC Baguettes 4-1 Phoenix Atica.
A rainy evening, a fiery battle, and finally the first victory of the season for the Baguettes — against the league leaders no less. Maybe bad weather really does suit them after all.
