FC Baguettes Held to Frustrating Draw by Windmills FC
FC Baguettes were left with a bitter taste despite a 2–2 draw against Dutch side Windmills FC, in a match they largely dominated but ultimately failed to win.
The game couldn’t have started better for the Baguettes. Within the opening minutes, Colin Block opened the scoring after a perfectly delivered throw-in from Benjamin “Ben” Legrand — a sharp and surprising move that caught the Dutch defense off guard (1–0).
From there, the French side controlled possession comfortably, dictating the tempo and creating chances. However, their lack of efficiency in front of goal proved costly. Twice, the Baguettes struck the woodwork, coming agonizingly close to doubling their lead.
The match took a difficult turn when goalkeeper Louis Daubersies was forced off injured following a one-on-one situation. Matthieu Richard stepped in between the posts, but just before halftime, Windmills capitalized on a fortunate corner to equalize (1–1).
The second half saw a shift in momentum, with the Dutch side enjoying more control. Yet, against the run of play, FC Baguettes regained the lead through a superb team move. Cyrille Flauw initiated the action from deep, releasing Ben Legrand down the left flank. Legrand finished brilliantly with a precise strike into the side netting (2–1).
With ten minutes remaining, disaster struck. A defensive scramble allowed a Windmills attacker to pounce and slot home the equalizer (2–2).
Despite heavy late pressure and several clear chances, FC Baguettes were unable to find a winner. The final whistle confirmed a draw that felt more like a defeat, given their dominance and missed opportunities.
